FIVE YEAR DISTRICT DEVELOPMENT PLAN II (DDPII) 2015/2016 TO 2019/2020

The District through a participatory, bottom-up planning, process developed a five Year District Development Plan (DDP) with the theme, Service Delivery for Social Economic Development. The second five Year District Development Plan was to provide a strategic planning framework for the achievement of the district's vision and goal, and consequent development for the next five years that started Financial year 2015/16 to 2019/2020. The five year District Development Plan was in line with National Development Plan (NDP) objectives and National Vision aspirations. The District in consultation with stakeholders formulated the five year plan. The five year District Development Plan is designed to address structural bottlenecks in the district in order to improve service delivery and social economic development for prosperity. The five year District Development Plan interventions aim at having a prosperous population in sustainable and secure environment. During the plan period, the investment priorities included physical infrastructure development mainly in Health, Education, Works and technical Services, Water and Sanitation, tourism, facilitating availability and access to critical production inputs especially in Agriculture.

At least 4,000 elderly persons from Rukungiri district are to benefit from the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment, a government initiative that extends financial support to senior citizens.

The Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE) was introduced as a pilot project in 2010 under the Expanding Social Protection (ESP) programme, specifically targeting labour-constrained individuals and households. Each beneficiary receives a monthly stipend of 25,000 Shillings.

The Ministry of Gender and social Development under Social Protection Policy on Wednesday launched the distribution of funds for senior citizens under social assistance grant meant to empower elders that are 80 years and above in Rukungiri District at Western Division headquarters in rukungiri municipality that was presided over by the Rukungiri LCV boss Andrewson Katebire.

Nemiscious Agaba the Rukungiri District Community Development Officer says that this money was supposed to be distributed starting from January 2020 each receiving Ugx 25000 per month therefore each will today receive their arrears for six months equivalent to Ugx 150,000.

Agaba also said that all sub counties

will be catered for starting with Rukungiri Municipality emphasizing that only those who are 80 years and above and have registered with NIRA will receive this money through their Centenary Bank accounts. 

He said that due to Coronavirus pandemic, the District shall find the elders in their Sub Counties and recipients must come with a mask.

Andrewson Katebire the Rukungiri District LC 5 Chairman thanked the elders for the great work they have done for the government and urged them to continue supporting the government.

He requested those who have not yet registered with NIRA and are 80 years to do so and also be considered to receive their money.
